Fake news is a growing issue in today's society. Fake news is news that is created by people for either economic or political gain. It is important to have your own opinions on issues and how can you have a good opinion if you are not correctly informed? Some questions you can ask yourself are,
- Where do you personally get reliable information?
- How can you tell that the information is reliable?
- How important is factual information to the success of our democracy? I personally get reliable information from the TV news stations and sometimes things like online newspapers like the Washington post. I will sometimes read things out of the local newspapers as well. One way I can tell that the information is reliable is if multiple sources are saying the same thing happened, then it probably happened. Sometimes if I hear something that sounds a little fishy I will now check it out on snopes.com . Factual information is important to the success of our democracy because if people are mis-informed, they may vote a certain way or do something or say something a certain way that could upset the balance of something. I am for sure not saying that upsetting the balance of something is not healthy but if you base an argument on fact's that are not true, there will be people believing fake news and there will also be people that are made mad. Which would effect our democracy by hindering the working together aspect even more.
